| DESCRIPTION: Up to 4.5mm in length. A small orange-yellow fly with large compund eyes and black bristles on the thorax. The wings are clear with 5 dark spots on each.  BEHAVIOUR:  The larvae live on dead leaves. DISTRIBUTION: Widespread in England and Wales though not particularly common. HABITAT: Hedgerows, woodland edges, lush meadows or any well-vegetated places. PERIOD: April to September.  |
